Rearcross U-12's 0 - Lough Derg 'B' 3

This top of the table clash saw the Clare based outfit emerge victorious over Rearcross U-12's on a three nil score opening up a four point gap at the summit in the process. The opening exchanges were lively, however it was the visiting side who hit the front when a fine effort from out on the left saw Colm Lenihan do well with a one handed save before Jack Grace got the finishing touch from close range. The Rearcross custodian went on to produce a man of the match performance and was in the action again seconds later after reflexing to turn the ball over the bar with a one handed touch. Rearcross enjoyed a period of dominance after this and game close with successive efforts from Cillian Kennedy with the first saved at the expense of a corner and the second wide of the far post. Colm Lenihan was in the action again late in the half with two smart saves before the half time whistle. Rearcross with wind advantage in the second half made a promising start and were made inroads with a low effort from Andy Kinnane following good play on the right and then Eoin Sheldon's effort flew over from outside the box. Rearcross were dealt a succour blow midway through the half after Lough Derg edged two nil ahead when Jack Grace nipped in to knock over from close range. The hosts battled gallantly to get back in to the tie and were denied when Cillian Kennedy's shot from the right came off the woodwork. This was as good as it got for the Slieve Felim side and it was game, set and match when the Lakers made it three nil after Evan Wood turned a corner kick from the right past a faultless Colm Lenihan. The game was over a contest after this, although Colm Lenihan did produce another superb save late on. Rearcross will be disappointed with the outcome on the day and will be hoping that other teams in the chasing pack can claw back some ground against Lough Derg which might bring Rearcross back in to contention.
